Looking northeast from Jewish Quarter. Western Wall Plaza in foreground and right. Golden Dome is Dome of the Rock. Tower just to left of Dome is part of the Ashrafiyya Madrasa. Just NE of that tower, but out of sight is the Sabil of Qaitbay - features the only carved dome outside of Cairo. Entrance to Western Wall Tunnel is in left-center foreground. Distant low hill just to the right of center is Mount Scopus, location of Augusta Victoria Hospital (Lutheran supported)

Galilee

View from our room at the Royal Plaza in Tiberias overlooking the Sea of Galilee.

The road from Capernaum to Nazareth that Jesus took numerous times.

Next we took a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee.

Gulls followed each boat out of dock until they could determine whether or not we would feed them. Arbel Cliffs are in the background. The old path we walked on earlier in the day is just to the left of the lowest gull in the photo

Church of the Beatitudes, traditional site of the Sermon on the Mount. Blessed be the ......., etc, etc.

The view the disciples saw while listening to the Sermon on the Mount.

The church at Tagbha (Church of the Multiplication of the Loaves and the Fishes). The site where Jesus feed 5000 people with five loaves and two fish.

The one and only port on the Sea of Galilee. This is where fishermen gathered and where the disciples saw Jesus soon after the Resurrection. This is the spot where the resurrected Jesus conferred the church leadership on Peter.

This is the rock extending inside the church. The church is called Church of the Primacy of Peter.

We had a short communion service near this church.

Remains of the synagogue at Capernaum. Capernaum was Jesus' home base in the Galilee.

A controversial Catholic Church was built over the remains of......

...Simon Peter's house.

We drove around the west side of the Sea of Galilee, an area that before the Six Day War in 1967 was inside Syria. This is the well-known area called the Golan Heights. Wikipedia article.

The site where John the Baptist baptized Jesus (Yardenet site). This is on the Jordan River just as it exits the Sea of Galilee on the south side.

A lovely spot on the Jordan River. Most of the river is not this beautiful.

We reaffirmed our baptism with a short service while standing in the Jordan River.

Beit She'an.  Another old Roman City. This is the best preserved site in Israel.

The Theatre at Beit She'an. The last site we visited before going back into Jordan.

Final passport checks in Israel. We thought the border security was onerous on the Israeli side until...

....we experienced the Jordan side. One hour on the Israeli side and two hours in Jordan. As always our common answer when asked why we are in the country was "Biblical Studies."

Final crossing of the Jordan River on the Sheikh Hussein crossing. The river was much larger here than it was further south on the Allenby Bridge crossing were we first entered Israel.

It almost seemed like home when we once again heard our Jordanian guide Ramsi's voice.

Jordan border crossing. After arriving at the Israeli side of the border around 4 PM, we did not arrive back at our hotel in Amman until 8:30 PM. We fly home in the morning. Looking forward to seeing family and friends when we arrive.
